13 No test or temptation that comes your way is beyond the course of what others have had to face. All you need to remember is that God will never let you down; he’ll never let you be pushed past your limit; he’ll always be there to help you come through it.
1 Corinthians 10:13 (The Message)
4-6 In this way we are like the various parts of a human body. Each part gets its meaning from the body as a whole, not the other way around. The body we’re talking about is Christ’s body of chosen people. Each of us finds our meaning and function as a part of his body. But as a chopped-off finger or cut-off toe we wouldn’t amount to much, would we? So, since we find ourselves fashioned into all these excellently formed and marvelously functioning parts in Christ’s body, let’s just go ahead and be what we were made to be, without enviously or pridefully comparing ourselves with each other, or trying to be something we aren’t.
Romans 12:4 – 6 (The Message)
Prayer
Lord, the world forces me to make comparisons that always result in me coming out the worse. There is always someone taller, stronger, richer, more beautiful, more graceful, more spiritual, with shinier things and better connections. Thank you for helping me to live in contentment.
The truth is that everyone struggles with trial, as the Corinthians passage states. You have made all of us with just the right amount of "stuff" to overcome trial so that we can grow. If I take on someone else's gifts I also get their challenges, for which I am not purposely built. I am the best person to handle all that you have given me. No one else can do it as well as you have designed me to do it. Thank You for this comforting assurance.
Amen
